EXCURSION 1 - Guided walking tour in Metz - Wednesday June 10 (16:00-17:30) FULLY BOOKED
The guided tour will continue with the place d’Armes, designed in the 18th century in a classical French style to assemble the various powers on the same site: military, religious, judicial and civil. Then you will see the covered market, initially designed as the bishop’s palace, but due to the French revolution it hadn’t been finished and became a modern market hall in 1835. In place de la Comédie, located on an island, you will discover the oldest theater (1752) of France still in activity and the Temple Neuf (New Protestant church) built by the Germans during the annexation (1871-1918) in grey stone and in a neo-romanesque style. To finish, you will discover the Citadel’s district with the Law Courts, the French garden of Esplanade, Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains Church, the Arsenal (a military building renovated in 1987 by the architect R. Boffil as a center for music, dance and contemporary creation), the Templars chapel from the 12th century, the Citadel food-store and finally the Governor’s Palace.
