After a short break in 2006, the well known series of the BOSS symposia continues following the successful events organised every two years in a different Belgian university since 1986.

Prof. Steven V. Ley, F.R.S., Cambridge University, UK has accepted to be chairman of BOSS XI scheduled to take place at Ghent University (Belgium), July 13-18, 2008, hosted by Prof. Johan Van der Eycken (Department of Organic Chemistry, Ghent University).

One of the major aims of this series of events, also for this new edition, has always been to give young chemists the possibility to attend a high level conference at a reasonable cost, covering a broad range of timely subjects in the field of organic chemistry instead of only addressing a small group of highly specialized chemists.

The symposium programme will include:

• A one-day course on a specific topic by the recipient of the Tetrahedron Chair
• A series of 16 plenary lectures with ample time for discussion
• A lecture delivered by the recipient of the Janssen Pharmaceutica Prize for Creativity in Organic Synthesis
• Poster sessions
• An exhibition of scientific instruments, books and chemicals
• Social activities
